What is SCORE?
SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives), is a non-profit association, founded in 1964, providing free business counseling and low cost group workshops to the small business community. Both working and retired executives and business owners donate their time and expertise as business counselors to assist would-be and existing business owners with various business issues.
A resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the SCORE association is dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. Topics addressed by SCORE include marketing, financing, business planning, insurance, legal aspects, government resources, federal and state taxes, market research, and much more.
The Buffalo - Niagara SCORE chapter, located in the Federal Building on West Huron (Buffalo), is made up of local businessmen and women who have been or are now successful entrepreneurs, small business owners, senior corporate executives and experienced professionals. SCORE Buffalo - Niagara offers their free business counseling at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce or at your place of business. Counseling is free, however, appointments are necessary.
Small business assistance workshops are also given on a frequent basis to provide guidance to anyone planning to start their own business, anyone planning on buying a business and general topics regarding the necessities of business. Local experts in conjunction with SCORE members and SBA employees conduct these workshops, which usually are scheduled for a full day. Workshop formats are both presentations and open discussions. A small, affordable fee is charged for SCORE workshops and locations
are varied throughout Western New York for the convenience of attendees.
